On April 27, 2019, the Plains Medical Foundation hosted their fourth Hats and Heels Gala at Sunrise Farms in Nazareth, Texas. The 2019 Gala was also a record setting year in sponsorship donations and earnings for the Castro County Hospital District. Castro County Healthcare wants to extend educational material to the community that will not only improve their health, but help them understand why their provider’s will either prescribe or not prescribe them antibiotics.   “A common cold and a bacterial infection are very different,” stated Linda Aguero, Clinic Director. “Your common cold or flu is a viral infection and antibiotics will not work.”   The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises patients and their families to use antibiotics only when necessary to further reduce antibiotic resistance, the spread of superbugs, and protect patients from any antibiotic side effects.   [...]

This week, November 12 – 16 is Antibiotic Awareness Week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising patients and their families to use antibiotics only when necessary to further reduce antibiotic resistance, the spread of superbugs, and protect patients from side effects from antibiotics. Castro County Healthcare introduces Cologuard DNA stool testing through the Medical Center of Dimmitt. This DNA stool testing is intended to screen adults of either sex, 50 years or older, who are at average risk for colon cancer. Cologuard is also covered by Medicare. Cologuard was approved by the FDA in August of 2014. It is not for everyone and is not considered a replacement for diagnostic colonoscopy or surveillance colonoscopy in high – risked individuals. Country View Living is set to finish construction by December 27, 2018. With this date quickly approaching, Castro County Healthcare District (CCHD) has hired Laura Kimball as the Administrator at Country View Living. Kimball’s dreams and goals of becoming an Administrator for a long-term and assisted living facility led her back home. DIMMITT – Castro County Healthcare invites the community to help support a family, friend, and team member of CCHD next Thursday, May 10thfrom 11 AM to 1:30 PM. There will be a ‘fiesta’ fundraiser to help support Betty Oltivero during her kidney transplant journey. Castro County Healthcare hung blue ribbons on Wednesday, April 18 in support of Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Month. If you drive by Plains Memorial Hospital or the Medical Center of Dimmitt you can see the blue ribbons on the trees in front along Halsell street. “In 2015, it was reported in the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico that an estimated 683,000 children were victims of child abuse or neglect and 1,670 children died as a result of abuse or neglect,” stated on The National Child Traumatic Stress Networks website. Lydia Davila wins $180.00 from Castro County Healthcare (CCH), by coming in first place, losing 10.60 percent, in the 2018 Biggest Loser Contest. On January 29, 2018, CCH started their sign-ups for the Biggest Loser Contest. Each contestant stepped on the same scale and began their weight loss journey. Paying $25.00 to participate, they received a free fitness membership to the fitness facility at CCH for the full two months of the competition.
