The Castro County Healthcare-owned facility ranks among the top 10 percent of nursing care facilities in the U.S.

DIMMITT, Texas (Feb. 26, 2024) – Country View Living, a long-term and senior-living residence part of Castro County Healthcare (CCH), has been awarded a five-star rating from Medicare. This achievement, which is earned by less than 10 percent of nursing facilities across the country, underscores the continued excellence of Country View Living in providing a high standard of living and support for the facility’s residents.

“Important rating systems from organizations like Medicare are critical in differentiating the quality of service and satisfaction patients can expect from hospitals and healthcare facilities,” says Elisha Rosier, CEO of CCH. “Achieving the top rating from Medicare means Country View Living is one of the best nursing facilities that Castro County residents can find not only in the Texas high plains but in America.”

Medicare’s rating system for nursing homes allows consumers to compare facilities on topics deemed most important, giving individuals a snapshot of the quality of each facility. The rating system, which is ranked from one at the lowest to five at the highest, combines results and data from three important categories: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.

The health inspection assesses facility inspections from the past three years, where fewer violations result in a higher rating. This includes annual full facility inspections, complaint investigations, infection control surveys, and self-reported incidents. Country View Living excelled in these inspections, with only two violations in the last annual health inspection in August 2023, which is remarkable compared to the U.S. average of 9.3 health citations.

Increased staffing levels and lower turnover in nursing homes often correlate with better care quality for residents. Country View Living boasts a five-star staffing rating, primarily attributed to its significant measure of total nurse staff hours per resident daily. The facility provides an average of 4 hours and 35 minutes of care, surpassing the national average of three hours and 47 minutes and Texas’ average of three hours and 17 minutes.

The quality measure star rating assesses nursing home performance in areas like flu shots, pain management, and weight maintenance for residents. With mostly long-stay residents, Country View Living earns a five-star rating due to its performance above the national average in categories such as medication use, injury prevention, mobility, and mental health. This highlights the facility’s success in maintaining residents’ well-being and overall health.

“While our facility received the highest overall rating, we still take our assessment seriously,” Rosier says. “Just as in any business or organization, there is always room for improvement, and we remain dedicated to upholding high standards, actively seeking ways to enhance the well-being of the residents.”

Castro County and neighboring communities are fortunate to have a facility that honors and cares for their loved ones who have played significant roles in shaping local communities.

The community’s generous support enables the facility to exceed typical nursing home offerings. It provides benefits like quality homemade meals for residents and their guests, a dynamic activity program, a top-notch beauty shop, and a beautiful chapel for community church services.
