The Medical Center of Dimmitt is proud to announce that they now offer a new program known as Adult Safety Net (ASN). This program provides low-cost vaccines to persons 19 years of age and older who do not have health insurance.
The program was created by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Immunization Unit to increase access to vaccination services in Texas for uninsured adults. This helped raise the immunization coverage levels and is helping improve the health of Texans.
Just like infants and children, adults need vaccinations too. Adults are just as much at risk for contracting vaccine-preventable diseases. Not only will you become severely ill, but you have a risk of spreading these diseases to infants who are too young to be vaccinated. So ASN solution was to help vaccinate the adult population to prevent infection with one of the potentially devastating diseases.
Vaccines currently available through the ASN Program are:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis A/B combination
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
- Measles, Mumps, &Rubella (MMR)
- Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV4)
- Pneumococcal Conjugate (PCV 13)
- Pneumococcal Polysaccharide (PPSV23)
- Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td)
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, & Pertussis (Tdap)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
- Zoster (Shingles)
To be eligible for the ASN Program and to receive the low-cost vaccines you must be 19 years of age or older and do not have health insurance. If you are enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid, another health insurance, or if your existing healthcare insurance does not cover vaccinations you are not eligible to receive ASN vaccines.
