Castro County EMS named 2018 Parade Marshals

//Castro County EMS named 2018 Parade Marshals

Castro County Healthcare is proud to have the team of first responders provided by Castro County EMS. Due to their efforts and continuous care for Castro County, the Fair Association has awarded them as the 2018 Parade Marshals.

The anonymous nomination stated how Castro County EMS goes above and beyond their duties. The crew care about the community and its members by doing things not necessarily job related, not because they are asked to but because they want to.

Castro County EMS provides emergent and non-emergent transportation of the sick and injured, primarily to Plains Memorial Hospital. They may also transport patients to any hospitals located in Hereford, Amarillo, Plainview and/or Lubbock, Texas. EMS also has cemented relationships with county and local law enforcement, fire personnel, and regional air medical services.

As members of South Plains Emergency Medical Services(SPEMS), CCEMS were chosen as the Public/Private Provider of the year in 2012 out of 55 other EMS services.

Castro County EMS currently has six full-time employees, this includes, four full-time paramedics, and two full time EMT’s. The full-time staff is complimented by a part-time staff consisting of three additional paramedics, five EMT’s, one Advanced EMT, and one Emergency Care Attendant (ECA).

Their annual call volume of approximately 600 calls deal with a mix of medical and trauma patients. In addition, they provide seasonal stand-by coverage to all the school districts in Castro County during football season, and have a home visit program year-round.
