May 20 through 26 is the 44thannual National EMS Week. Since 1974, this week has been used to celebrate and honor those who are on the ‘front line’ of medical emergencies and provide day-to-day lifesaving services to our community.
May 23 is a day dedicated to raising awareness about specialized emergency care for children, called Emergency Medical Service for Children (EMSC) Day. This year Castro County EMS, subdivision of Castro County Hospital District, is visiting schools in the Castro County community to help raise this awareness.
Last week on May 9 the EMS team attended the Community Helpers event at the FBC Pre-School and Day Care. They shared to young children the importance of what they do and why they should call 911 if something was to happen. The Castro County EMS was there along with other Castro County First Responders including the fire department and sheriff’s department.
During EMS week, Casstro County EMS will be going to Hart Middle School on Wednesday, May 23 and Nazareth School District on Thursday, May 24 to help raise awareness of child emergency care and safety.
