Castro County Hospital District Transitions to New EMR

CCHD Transitions to New EMR

Castro County Hospital District, including Plains Memorial Hospital, Medical Center of Dimmitt and Welch Rehab transitioned from their outdated electronic medical record (EMR) to Cerner Community Works November 1.

“This has been a 15 month process from the time the contract was signed until go-live on November 1st,“ according to CEO Linda Rasor. Rasor also noted their old EMR system, Healthland, was just not well supported or providing the needed technology for keeping up with state and federal reporting requirements.

Cerner Community Works is designed specifically for rural facilities. It will allow providers to see all patient encounters from the ER to the clinic and inpatient stays along with lab and radiology reports in real-time. There are additional patient safety features included for patient identification and drug interactions as well as transit from one facility to another.

Rasor noted that all clinical and financial areas had to build or design the EMR to meet all best practice guidelines in both areas. The staff have spent countless hours building this EMR and are to be commended for their exceptional design and focus. The Cerner Implementation Team have been very complimentary of the staff’s hard work and dedication.

The cost of Cerner Community Works is $2.7 million. CCHD was able to finance the EMR through Cerner at 0% interest and has been paying for this out of daily operations. No additional funding was required.

Cerner Community Works includes a patient portal as well. When you visit Plains Memorial Hospital, you will be offered the option to receive an invitation to the portal via email. The Healthelife Patient Portal provides an easy and efficient way to view your health information online. When you sign up for a Healthelife Portal account you will be able to access your health information from your desktop, tablet or mobile device, using the Healthelife app for iOS and Android devices. Healthelife Portal provides real-time access to your Health Record including medication list, allergy and immunization history, current problems and health issues as well as lab results, discharge documents and visit summary information.
